从前，鲁国有一对夫妇，他们各自精通一门手艺。一天，这两口子商量决定，去越国谋生。

In the past, there was a couple in the State of Lu. The husband made very good shoes. The wife was good at weaving (编织) silk. One day, the couple decided to go to the State of Yue to make a living.

过去，鲁国有一对夫妇。丈夫可以做非常好的鞋子。妻子擅长编织丝绸。有一天，这对夫妇决定去越国谋生。

One man tried to dissuade them: “You had better not go. If you go to the State of Yue to make a living, that would be too bad. Over there, you cannot make a living!”

一个人试图劝阻他们: “你最好不要去。如果你去越国谋生，那就太糟糕了。在那里，你不能谋生!”

The couple asked in surprise: “We don’t understand what you mean. Each of us has good skills. How is it possible that we couldn’t make a living?” Then the man said to them: “Right. Both of you have good skills. But you probably don’t know the situation. You make shoes for people to wear, but the people in the State of Yue do not wear shoes; you weave silk to make hats, but the people there like to have their hair hanging down and do not wear hats. Then, how can you sell the shoes and hats you make? Though you are skilled, your skills are of no use over there. Then how can you make a living?”

这对夫妇惊讶地问: “我们不明白你的意思。我们两人都有很好的技能。我们怎么可能不能谋生呢？”然后那个人对他们说:“ 对。你们两个都有很好的技能。但你可能不了解情况。你做鞋给人穿，但越国的人不穿鞋; 你织丝绸做帽子，但是那里的人喜欢垂下头发，不戴帽子。那么，你怎么能卖你做的鞋帽呢？虽然你很熟练，但你的技能在那边没有用。那你怎么谋生呢？”

After hearing this, the couple saw the light: “Oh, so our way of thinking is against the current fashion (不合时尚).”

这对夫妇听后，明白了: “哦，所以我们的思维方式不符合现在的趋势。“
