Five lions were found in a small space outside of their main exhibit at about 6:30 am, sending the whole zoo into lockdown(封锁). About 50 guests taking part in the zoo’s ‘Roar and Snore’ overnight camping experience were on site at the time of the incident. Some of the guests were forced to hide in a bathroom for almost 90 minutes. Four of the five lions that escaped made their own way back into the exhibit, however one of the lions had to be tranquilised(注射镇静剂).
Cammeray Public School year 4 student Cayla Piegay was one of the zoo’s ‘Roar and Snore’ guests at the time of the escape, and the overnight trip was her first ever school camp. When she was told five lions escaped, she felt it was fun and scary. Cayla’s teacher David Dempsey said he kept his 30 students calm during the lockdown by doing yoga and silent games. “But as we began to feel a little bit bored after an hour and a quarter, we just sat and chatted,” he said. “It was a great adventure for the kids and they learn to stay calm when facing problems.”
