有一天，正当猫头鹰睡得很香时，一只蚱蜢把她吵醒了，她没法入睡，便请求蚱蜢停止。蚱蜢却根本不理她。突然她想到一个好计策……

The o wl ( 猫头鹰 ) always sleep s during the day. T here was a certain old o wl who had become very hard to please as she grew older, especially if anything disturbed ( 妨碍 ) her sleep . One warm summer afternoon as she slept in an old tree, a g rasshopper ( 蚱蜢 ) began a song. T he song woke the old owl up and the old owl became very angry .

The smart old o wl knew quite well that it would do no good to argue with the g rasshopper. What was more , her eyes were not good enough by day to let her kill the g rasshopper. So she stopped all hard words and spoke very kindly to him. “ Well sir, ” she said, “ if I must stay awake, I am going to enjoy your singing. Now that I think of it, I have a wonderful wine ( 葡萄酒 ) here . I hear Apollo drinks before he sings to the high gods. Please come up and taste this delicious drink with me. I know it will make you sing like Apollo himself. ”

聪明的老o wl非常清楚，与g rasshopper争论是没有好处的。更重要的是，她的眼睛每天都不够好，不能让她杀死g rasshopper。所以她停止了所有的艰难话语，非常友好地对他说。“先生，”她说，“ 如果我必须保持清醒，我会喜欢你的歌声。现在我想起来了，我这里有一种很棒的酒。在阿波罗向众神歌唱之前，我听到他喝酒。请上来和我一起品尝这美味的饮料。我知道这会让你像阿波罗一样唱歌。”
