The sun was about to rise on Farmer Tim’s farm.
太阳即将在农夫蒂姆的农场升起。
Chester Chicken woke up the cows with his important news. “The chickens are taking a holiday today,” Chester said. “Is that so?” asked Daisy the cow. “Yes, we worked too hard this week,” Chester said. “You did?” asked Daisy. “Yes! We laid ten eggs this week,” Chester said, “and there are only five of us.” Daisy smiled and nodded her head. Ten was a lot of eggs for five chickens. “Enjoy your day off,” she said.
鸡切斯特用他的重要消息叫醒了奶牛。“鸡们今天放假了，”切斯特说。“是吗?”母牛黛西问。“是的，我们这周工作太辛苦了，”切斯特说。“是吗?”黛西问。“是啊!“这周我们下了十个蛋，”切斯特说，“我们只有五只鸡。”黛西微笑着点了点头。十只蛋对五只鸡来说太多了。“好好享受休息日吧，”她说。
“But what about us?” the other cows said to Daisy. “We gave Farmer Tim 100 pails (桶) of milk this week. There are only ten of us!” Daisy agreed with the cows too. 100 pails of milk would make a lot of cheese. “But we can’t take a holiday on the same day as the chickens,” Daisy said. “What would Farmer Tim say?”
“我们怎么办?”其他奶牛对黛西说。“这周我们给了农夫蒂姆100桶牛奶。我们只有十头牛!”黛西也同意奶牛的意见。100桶牛奶可以做很多奶酪。黛西说:“但是我们不能和鸡在同一天放假。农夫蒂姆会怎么说?”
Daisy and the cows walked on the grass and had their breakfast. “The chickens are taking a holiday,” Daisy told the trees. “And we don’t think it’s fair.” The trees were not happy with this news. “I’ve dropped over 1,000 apples this season,” one said. “And I’ve had a million cherries picked!” said another. The wind blew and the trees put on their angry faces. “We need a holiday more than the chickens!” the trees shouted together.
黛西和奶牛们在草地上走着吃早餐。“鸡们正在度假，”黛西对树说。“我们认为这不公平。”树听到这个消息很不高兴。“这个季节我掉了1000多个苹果，”其中一人说。“我还摘了一百万颗樱桃!”另一个说。风在吹，树木摆出愤怒的表情。“比起养鸡，我们更需要假期!”树一齐叫道。
Then Rowdy Rooster (公鸡) jumped on the fence. He looked up into the sky and began to crow. It was time for the farmer to wake up. But a minute passed and Farmer Tim did not appear. Rowdy called two more times. “Call him again,” the chickens shouted to Rowdy. Rowdy made one last call and this time Farmer Tim woke up. But he didn’t come out and milk the cows, or check on the eggs underneath the chickens. Instead he opened the window and shouted loud enough for everyone to hear: “I worked too hard this week, I say. It’s time I took a holiday!”
然后，吵闹的公鸡跳到篱笆上。他抬头望着天空，开始啼叫。农夫该醒了。但是一分钟过去了，农夫蒂姆还没有出现。罗迪又叫了两次。“再叫他一声，”鸡群对罗迪喊道。罗迪叫了最后一次，这次农夫蒂姆醒了。但他没有出来挤牛奶，也没有检查鸡窝里的鸡蛋。相反，他打开窗户，大声喊道:“我这周工作太辛苦了。我该去度假了!”
